Physio-led Pilates Classes Starting 9th January 2023
Do you suffer from a stiff and sore back or neck? Looking for a way to rebuild your core strength and improve mobility? Have you been wondering how to start back into exercise after a long period?
Well Pilates is a great place to start.
Currently we see a range of people who would benefit from Pilates and often recommend it to patients to continue with once they have overcome their injury, as a way to maintain strength and prevent a recurrence of injuries.
Why do we recommend Pilates?
Pilates focuses on three main areas: stability, mobility and breath awareness.
It helps the body to relearn how to move in the most efficient way.
The more we can learn to build awareness of these areas the more we use them in day to day life and the more we can notice when they are out of sync.
In a Pilates class, we work through a series of slow sustained exercises focusing on control and breath awareness.
Including breath awareness as part of the movements is hugely beneficial for our bodies. Our bodies are often caught in a state of stress or flight or fight (and even more so in the last few years during the pandemic) and our classes are designed to relax the nervous system and help people switch out of this fight or flight mode.
Why join the Galway Bay Physiotherapy-led Pilates classes?
Classes are taught by a Chartered Physiotherapist who can guide each person safely through the class. We also ensure everyone is observed and supported, whilst also keeping it challenging for various levels of ability. Classes will be kept to a small number which allows for modification and adaptation of certain exercises for people with various injuries.
Information about the classes:
No experience is necessary and we have classes that will be aimed at a beginner level.
We have introduced an intermediate class for improvers or someone who is looking for a more challenging class.
All classes are mat-based and all you need to bring to class is your own mat. We ask that you let us know if you have any mobility issues before hand. If you cannot get up from the floor without any assistance, then the classes may not be suitable for you.
We will go through any past medical history or injury queries before starting classes and classes will run in blocks of 6 weeks.
