The main benefits of deep tissue massage include:

  • Pain Relief
  • Improved Flexibility
  • Lowers Blood Pressure
  • Healing
  • Relaxation
  • Aids Sleep
  • Break-up Scar Tissue

Muscle tightness and pain can occur as a result of poor posture, long periods of inactivity, sports injuries and engaging in everyday activities. Tightness or pain can happen when a muscle is overworked, resulting in muscle fatigue and tension.

Deep Tissue/Sports Massage Therapy aims to restore muscle tension to its original state. It improves circulation and lymphatic drainage, removing waste products in our muscles that occur when overloaded. This will relieve any unwanted muscle tension, remove knots and increase the flexibility of soft tissues.

Deep Tissue/Sports massage is a type of massage technique which uses deep pressure. Combining slow strokes and notable finger pressure, the purpose is to release the tension and tightness held in your muscles and your connective tissues.

A deep tissue/sports massage will typically focus on your primary areas of discomfort. This will typically be the back, neck, shoulders, buttocks and legs. However, it is also used on all parts of the body. The increased pressure helps to alleviate any soreness or imbalance caused by injury or tension.

This type of massage can improve physical and mental wellbeing. If you have anxiety or are suffering from stress, a deep tissue massage will help to release the tension you are carrying in your body as a result. Most massages focus on relaxation alone. A deep tissue/sports massage provides this as well as relieving aches and stiffness.

Keith has worked with the Galway Minor and under 20s team from 2018 to 2021 with the Irish rugby students’ team for their World Cup campaign from 2015 to 2017 in Australia. He has also worked with Liam Mellows hurling, NUIG Rugby, Mountbellew football and various other teams. Richard has worked with the Loughrea Senior Hurlers Team from 2020 to 2022 and is now Head Athletic Therapist for Galway United Football Club and Galwegians Women RFC.
